Al joined the Cook County community in 2020 and brings nearly twenty years of experience in education rooted in creativity, connection, and experiential learning. They hold a B.A. in Education and Youth Studies from Beloit College and have served as a creative writing and poetry teacher, outdoor educator with Outward Bound, Teaching Artist with Upstream Arts, Special Education Teacher at Great Expectations School, and Children’s Mental Health Case Manager, in Cook County.
At Oshki Ogimaag, Al is honored to serve as the Literacy, Art, and Social Studies Teacher, weaving literacy, the arts, Anishinaabe culture and nature-based learning into joyful, meaningful classroom experiences.
Outside of school, Al enjoys canoeing, hiking, making art, and spending time with their dogs, Bubba and Nintendo.
Fun fact: Al has canoed the entire length of both the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers!
